A lovely diamond, amethyst, peridot and seed pearl bow pendant necklace. This has a pretty design with a double lavaliere drop, that gives lovely movement.
It is in very good antique condition, with just a little thinning to the metal in some spots. It has been beautifully made with care, with lots of articulation. The entire pendant part is original with just the chain being a later replacement.
Known as Suffragette jewellery, original pieces such as this are getting very hard to find. These pieces date from the turn of the 20th century when Emmeline Pankhurst founded the movement in 1903, to try and obtain votes for women. There were suffragists, who were peaceful in their protests and suffragettes, who used more aggressive tactics, such as arson, hunger strikes and property damage. The gemstones were picked to represent their colours of violet, white and green, violet meaning freedom and dignity, white represented purity and green meant hope. They were also said to stand for Give Women Votes, although there is some doubt over this.
