A gorgeous pair of larger size swallow hoop charms, sold as complete earrings, with the new 9ct gold huggy hoops shown in the photos. In excellent condition, created from a Victorian brooch, there is minor evidence of lead solder in one swallow, but it is stable and does not touch the body when worn as an earring charm.
A garnet-topped doublet (GTD) is an antique composite gemstone, popular from the mid-19th century, featuring a thin slice of natural red garnet fused to a coloured glass base (in this case making a blue stone). Used to imitate gems like emeralds and sapphires, the hard garnet top increases durability and adds a gem like lustre, while the lower glass provides colour.
