Antique Georgian love conquers all sepia ring 9 carat Gold
Era: Georgian C.1780
Metal: 9 carat Gold
Size: UK F.5/US 3
Weight: 3g
A Georgian era sepia painting brimming with sentimental messages. It has later (but still in antiquity) been converted into a very small ring, with the addition of a shank that is a little wonky but works well.
Now let's talk about all of the imagery! The words Omnia Vincit Amor or Love conquers all are seen at the top of the scene of two doves meaning purity and devotion standing atop an unbroke column or plinth which signifies eternity. There are two faint Cypress trees seen in the background, one either side of the central image and they are often associated with ancient mourning traditions and cemeteries. There is no engraved dedication to the reverse, although this may have been lost in time if the piece has been reset as a ring.
A truly beautiful and meaningful piece of history, it is very important not to get this jewel wet to maintain its current condition.
