Antique Georgian Garnet and paste riviere necklace 9 carat gold and Silver
Era: Georgian to early Victorian C.1820-1850
Material: 9 carat gold and silver
Gemstones: Garnet cabochon x 19 8x6mm Paste x19 5.5mm diameter
Weight: 29 grams
Length: 42cm 16.5 inches.
A superb design of riviere necklace, with a little twist on the classic, the silver set clear pastes, have been set alternating with oval garnet cabochons in 9ct Gold. All of the gems are held in delicious cut down collet settings, the pastes closed back and foiled, the garnets open back. The clasp is hidden, with a slightly larger garnet which measures 9.5x6.6mm and the clasp mechanism is 9ct Gold also. It functions well and closes securely.
It is in excellent condition with the original gemstones, which are a beautiful deep shade of red and glow wonderfully when they catch the light, as do the clear pastes. There is some very minor general surface wear, but nothing particular of note, that would go above age expected wear and there are no chips of note to mention, although three garnets show natural surface reaching inclusions.
We do not often find such pieces in this kind of condition and I hope you can enjoy its beauty too!
