A stunning Georgian brooch set with a beautiful step cut, foiled topaz and a smaller Ruby gemstone, which is set in silver and both are closed back.
The brooch is a rare Halley’s Comet piece, made after the sighting of the comet in 1758.
The gemstones have a crimped collet edge known as a 'pie crust' setting typical of the Georgian era. The fastening is an older type tube hinge and C clasp in base metal.
In very good condition commensurate with its age, this is a charming piece, with an unusual combination of gemstones!
